One second.
That is all it takes for life to change.
"We found a mass." In that one second, your world is turned upside down.
"Chemo is working." In that one second, you have all of the hope in the world.
"The tumor stopped responding to treatment." In that one second, you feel as all hope is lost.
"There is nothing more that we can do." In that one second, you find out that your child has died.
One second.
You wake up in the morning, and for one second you forget about the tragedy of losing your child.
You walk by her closed door, and for one second you think she is in there taking a nap.
You see her favorite character, and for one brief second you want to buy it for her, then you realize she isn't here anymore.
One second.
The reality is that life is a constant stream of seconds...not minutes, not hours, not even days or months or years. I have learned that in the worst way possible. One second matters. It is the difference between good and bad, happy and sad, life and death.
How are you spending your seconds?
